“Employers who recognize the potential of an “under-utilized workforce” will be at an advantage in the race for talent!”
From October 2006 through March 2007, the steering committee of Employment 2007 conducted six months of research throughout the province of Nova Scotia, interviewing employers and potential employers of persons with intellectual disabilities; holding focus groups and meeting with employment counselors at service agencies. That research has been compiled into a PowerPoint presentation, a PDF of that presentation is available by clicking here.
“90% of employers who hire individuals with an intellectual disability said that they are ver reliable and dedicated employees.”
- 2006, provincial survey of 32 employers
As part of the public awareness work of the Employment 2007 committee, a brochure was produced that has been introduced to the province of Nova Scotia in an extensive newspaper and mailing campaigns that highlights just a few of the benefits of hiring people with intellectual disabilities. A .PDF of the brochure is available here. Hard copies of the brochure are available at a cost of $1.00 each plus postage through DIRECTIONS Council.
